A better future for youth isn’t built alone

It’s driven by people who bring purpose, skills, and strategy to every decision

The Movement Behind the Mission

YOUTHOOD is shaping a new standard for youth development — one built on equity, co-leadership, and systemic change. But that vision only comes to life when it’s powered by the right people.

Whether you’re a strategist, a creative communicator, or a passionate volunteer, there’s space for you to play a part in shaping what’s next.

Explore how you can get involved across our growing teams below — and stay tuned as more roles open and our national outreach expands.

How recruitment works at The YOUTHOOD Project:

Recruitment at YOUTHOOD follows a relational process designed to ensure fairness and transparency. Candidates typically progress through an Initial Chat, a structured application stage, shortlisting, and a formal interview process before any appointment is made.

Opportunities may sit within our Central Office, or within future delivery strands as the organisation develops.

While we typically open clusters of roles during key points in the year, roles may occasionally open outside of these cycles where a critical leadership or delivery need emerges.

If a role is live, it will be clearly marked below. If not, “Watch this space” means exactly that — we’re building, planning, and preparing for what comes next. Follow us on LinkedIn or get in touch to stay updated when new opportunities go live.

At present, live opportunities sit within our Central Office, with other strands introduced as YOUTHOOD grows.

Safer Recruitment & Key Information

  • YOUTHOOD is a youth-led organisation, and for our founding leadership and early staff team, roles are typically suited to individuals aged under 26 at the point of appointment.

This reflects our commitment to building YOUTHOOD alongside peers at similar life and career stages, enabling shared learning, trust, and collective leadership during our start-up phase. As the organisation grows, we expect to recruit across a broader range of ages and career stages.

  • All roles currently listed on this page are unpaid, voluntary roles.

This reflects YOUTHOOD’s early-stage, pre-funding position. We are committed to transitioning roles to paid positions as soon as sustainable funding is secured, and many of the roles listed play a direct part in enabling that transition.

Applicants should only apply if they are able to commit reliably within the stated hours on a voluntary basis at this stage.

  • We recognise that experience comes in many forms. Depending on the role, relevant experience may include:

    • Charity, non-profit, or social impact work

    • Relevant academic study or training (e.g. Law, Politics, Education, Business, Social Sciences)

    • Placements, apprenticeships, or voluntary roles

    • Leadership within student societies, campaigns, or start-ups

What matters most is confidence, reliability, and readiness to take responsibility, rather than a specific job title or length of employment.

  • At present, applicants for most listed roles must be based in England.

This reflects current legal, safeguarding, and operational capacity. As YOUTHOOD grows and gains the resources to properly support staff across the devolved nations of the UK, we expect this to expand.

If this requirement disadvantages you from applying, we still encourage you to get in touch. Some roles, such as casual or project-based work, may not require the same locality, and future opportunities may be more flexible.

You may also wish to join Mission Groundwork, YOUTHOOD’s open contributor space, which does not hold geographical limits and enables individuals to support, shape, and contribute to our work from anywhere.

  • Some roles may require:

    • A DBS check

    • Completion of safeguarding training

Where required, successful applicants will be expected to either:

    • Already hold the relevant checks/training, or

    • Arrange and cover the cost themselves

At this stage, YOUTHOOD is not able to fund DBS checks or training, but we will clearly indicate where these are required.

  • Regardless of role or remit, all staff and leaders are expected to uphold YOUTHOOD’s core values:

Integrity – acting honestly and responsibly
Presence – being reliable, engaged, and communicative
Inclusion – respecting difference and widening participation
Curiosity – learning, questioning, and improving
Respect – towards young people, colleagues, and partners

We take these expectations seriously as part of creating a safe, credible, and values-led organisation.

YOUTHOOD Central Office

This is where strategy meets structure. YOUTHOOD’s core team leads on national campaigns, organisational growth, fundraising, compliance, and systems change — keeping our values alive while building the infrastructure to grow.

These roles span leadership and infrastructure — from strategic advisors and financial leads to policy coordinators, operations managers, and national campaign specialists driving the engine of our organisation forward.

Current Openings

  • Become Our Director of Finance & Compliance

Without this role, YOUTHOOD cannot become a charity, access funding, or operate at scale. We’re looking for someone ready to take ownership of this critical area, working alongside Trustees and legal advisers to build a credible, sustainable organisation.

  • Become Our Co-Director of Youth (Regional)

This role is central to how YOUTHOOD shows up locally, working with regions, partners, and young people to bring programmes and partnerships to life. We’re looking for someone ready to coordinate delivery, build relationships, and ensure our work is felt on the ground.

  • Become Our Co-Director of Youth (National)

This role shapes how youth voice is represented, strengthened, and carried into national conversations. We’re looking for someone ready to support young leaders, guide engagement spaces, and ensure lived experience informs how YOUTHOOD grows.

  • Become Our Director of Policy & Campaigns

This role connects insight to action, turning what young people and professionals share into clear policy positions and national campaigns. We’re looking for someone ready to shape our voice, influence conversations, and help position YOUTHOOD within wider systems.

Grassroots Partnership Hubs

YOUTHOOD’s mission is local as well as national. Our regional partnerships bring our frameworks, campaigns, and support closer to young people’s lived realities — working with grassroots organisations, local authorities, and community leaders.

These teams lead YOUTHOOD’s presence in places like Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, London, Sheffield, and Leicester — with more regions to follow. Roles here will include programme leads, regional strategists, and partnership coordinators.

YOUTHOOD Regional Legacy Programmes

We’re building something bold for student changemakers — our Impact Teams will lead YOUTHOOD’s work on the ground, connecting with schools, youth, and community spaces. If we’re not at your uni yet… trust us, we’re getting there.

Over summer, you might be leading pop-up workshops, hosting youth stalls, or planning local events. During term-time, expect to co-deliver enrichment sessions and day-long school takeovers that bring youth voice to life.

Current Openings
