Recruitment route: Impact Staff Digital Walkthrough Cover Letter.
Two routes. Different arrangements.
Impact Staff can contribute through defined assignments or time-limited voluntary opportunities. Explore the differences between Delivery Associates and Seasonal Volunteers, including why responsibilities, arrangements and expectations should be clear from the outset.
Delivery Associates
Defined contributions built around particular work, expertise or delivery needs.
How this route works
Delivery Associates contribute skills, experience or additional capacity to a specified assignment, programme or project. This allows YOUTHOOD to bring in relevant people for work that requires particular expertise or support, without treating every contribution as an ongoing Core Staff role.
The scope, timeframe, responsibilities, oversight and engagement arrangements should be made clear before someone begins. Associate opportunities may differ considerably in their purpose and duration.
What involvement might involve
- Supporting an agreed programme or project.
- Providing specialist creative, technical or operational skills.
- Contributing to research, resources or defined delivery tasks.
- Working alongside designated YOUTHOOD staff within an agreed scope.
- Reviewing the work completed and sharing learning from the assignment.
Being a Delivery Associate does not automatically mean holding a permanent staff position. The payment, contractual or voluntary status of any particular opportunity must be stated clearly in its advertised terms.
Seasonal Volunteers
Flexible voluntary involvement connected to particular activities and delivery periods.
How this route works
Seasonal Volunteers provide voluntary support where additional people are needed for an event, programme activity or defined period of organisational work.
Rather than assuming an open-ended commitment, involvement is organised around suitable opportunities, manageable expectations and relevant preparation. Volunteers should know what they are being asked to do, who will support them and what arrangements apply.
What involvement might involve
- Helping with event preparation and practical arrangements.
- Welcoming and supporting participants at suitable activities.
- Assisting with materials, resources and coordination.
- Supporting appropriate communications or engagement tasks.
- Contributing feedback and learning after an activity.
This is a voluntary route, not a substitute for paid employment or an expectation of indefinite unpaid availability. Tasks, supervision, safeguarding arrangements and any available expenses or access support should be confirmed for each opportunity.
Different strengths. Shared impact.
Explore the three broad areas Impact Staff can support: Operations & Communications, Mission Delivery and Policy & Insight. These are connected areas of contribution, not separate departments or fixed job titles.
Operations & Communications
Helping things run smoothly, from communications, social media and branding to coordinating resources, supporting learning activities and keeping our work organised.
Why it matters
Our public-facing work depends on reliable organisation behind it. Clear communications, appropriate resources, practical preparation and effective coordination help YOUTHOOD deliver responsibly and make its work accessible to others.
Contributions in this area strengthen organisational capacity without requiring everyone to take on a permanent operational role.
Examples of contributions
- Creating or preparing communications and social media materials.
- Supporting branding, design and accessible resources.
- Helping coordinate materials, schedules and activity preparation.
- Contributing practical administrative or technical support.
- Supporting learning resources and internal organisation.
Not every contribution is visible to the public. The work behind the scenes helps other parts of the mission happen well.
Mission Delivery
Helping bring our public-facing work to life, including events, workshops, consultations and opportunities that connect young people, professionals and organisations.
Why it matters
Our frameworks and ideas become more useful when people can explore them through carefully planned activities and shared experiences. Delivery involves preparation, participation, accessibility, safeguarding and appropriate follow-up.
Impact Staff can bring additional practical capacity to this work while designated staff retain the responsibilities requiring particular authority, training or oversight.
Examples of contributions
- Helping prepare workshops, events and group activities.
- Supporting welcomes, materials and accessible arrangements.
- Assisting with appropriate engagement activities.
- Helping coordinate practical event or programme tasks.
- Contributing to reflection, evaluation and follow-up.
Good delivery creates purposeful opportunities for people to connect, contribute and learn. Involvement is matched to the individual activity and its safeguarding, supervision and training requirements.
Policy & Insight
Supporting research, contributing to our Policy Agenda and creating resources that help share learning, communicate our thinking and strengthen the case for change.
Why it matters
YOUTHOOD's ideas need to be informed by evidence, practical experience and careful analysis of how decisions and systems affect young people's development.
Contributions to research and insight can help us identify important questions, examine assumptions and communicate proposed changes in accessible ways.
Examples of contributions
- Researching relevant youth policy or practice developments.
- Supporting evidence reviews or briefing preparation.
- Helping prepare explainers and learning resources.
- Contributing analysis and ideas to developing policy work.
- Helping organise and communicate findings responsibly.
Contributions can inform and strengthen YOUTHOOD's thinking. Formal organisational positions, publications and policy decisions remain subject to the relevant approval and accountability processes.
Your route doesn't limit where you can contribute.
Delivery Associates and Seasonal Volunteers are two ways of becoming involved. Operations & Communications, Mission Delivery and Policy & Insight describe the broad kinds of work that involvement could support.
These are not three separate departments or fixed job titles. A specific opportunity may involve more than one area. Its advertisement will explain the duties, time commitment, eligibility, payment or voluntary status, selection process and relevant working arrangements.

ⓘ A note on Core Staff remuneration
YOUTHOOD is currently operating with an unpaid Core Team as we establish the funding and infrastructure needed to sustain our work. Our intention is to transition towards paid Core Staff positions when sustainable funding allows, although we cannot yet guarantee a timeframe. We recognise the value of people's time and expertise, and that unpaid opportunities are not accessible or suitable for everyone. Remuneration and working arrangements will always be made clear before someone applies.
